TADANO America Corporation Gearing up for CONEXPO-CON/AGG
Houston, TX -- TADANO America Corporation will show seven cranes from its rough terrain and all terrain ranges at ConExpo-Con/Agg in Las Vegas March 4-8, 2014. The company plans to significantly increase its presence at the construction equipment tradeshow, according to Tadano America President Yo Kakinuma.
“ConExpo provides the perfect venue to showcase Tadano’s core values of safety, quality and efficiency in our products and services,” said Kakinuma. “Tadano produces the highest quality and highest value RTs and ATs in their classes. Our goal at ConExpo is to give our dealers and the end-users of our equipment the opportunity to see for themselves the attributes of our cranes and the intrinsic quality built into these state-of-the-art machines.”
Kakinuma pointed to the safety, ease of operation and reliability of Tadano cranes and the positive feedback the company gets from end-users.
“At ConExpo, we will give our customers the opportunity to visit with Tadano crane owners as well as our Tadano management team from around the world,” he said. “Our cranes will be a highlight at the Gold Lot.”
Tadano America’s 24,000 square foot booth will feature:
Rough Terrain Line
- Two new GR-1600XL-2 (160 ton)
- GR-1000XL-2 (100 ton)
- GR-750XL-2 (75 ton)
- GR-150XL-1 (15 ton)
All Terrain Line
- ATF 400G-6 (450 ton)
- ATF 220G-5 (250 ton)
“Conexpo 2014 is the official unveiling of Tadano’s new GR 1600XL-2, 160 ton, 3-axle rough terrain. However, this new model has already received unprecedented market acceptance in North America in the form of many purchase orders,” said Ron Dogotch vice president of sales.
Of the two GR-1600XL-2 units one will be configured showing the crane in the transportation mode with the quick self-removing front and rear outriggers. The second unit will be rigged as a general purpose RT. Other features of the GR-1600XL-2 include the Tadano exclusive asymmetrical multi-position outrigger setup, automatic moment limiter (AML-C), and the ECO-mode and positive control systems that reduce fuel consumption while the crane is being operated or on stand-by also reducing CO2 emissions. A single cylinder 6-section 200.1’ boom and 59.1’ bi-fold off-setting jib provide for a tip height of 256.6’ and the cab tilt system improves visibility at extended reach. The Tadano HELLO-NET system allows you to monitor crane activity remotely via a computer or mobile device.
The biggest machine on the stand will be the 450-ton ATF 400G-6, another new crane from Tadano. This unit comes standard with the exclusive Tadano “lift and release adjuster” that provides automatic radius correction for boom deflection under load. The crane is also equipped with a 5-section boom to 198.6’ and can be equipped with a fixed or a hydraulically extending luffing jib with maximum length of 257.5’. The ATF400G-6 also features an optional power system (PS) for increased capacities. This crane features the Tadano HELLO-NET telematics system.
“The ATF 400G-6 is another best of class crane from Tadano. “This crane has the capacity, reach, safety features and ease of operation not found in most ATs on the market. This crane was designed to beat the competition in every arena and it lives up to our claim,” said Dogotch.

Tadano's 450 ton all terrain ATF 400G-6 makes its first lift in Florida
Tadano America Corporation Interview with Bob Steiner, President & Justin Steiner Sales Manager of Barcelona Equipment, Inc., Clearwater, Florida.
FROM THE PORT TO THE JOB
Tadano’s First U.S. Customer Delivery of the ATF 400G-6 All Terrain Crane
Representatives from Barcelona Equipment and Tadano Cranes met at the port in Brunswick, GA to take delivery of the new Tadano ATF 400G-6 all terrain crane. The ATF 400G-6 was driven from Brunswick, Georgia to Barcelona Equipment’s office located in Clearwater, Florida. Upon delivery, a customer requested use of the crane and within days of the crane’s arrival to the Barcelona yard it was sent to its first job.

Barcelona’s customer, Hammer Haag Steel needed the crane to load equipment on a barge that was heading to Louisiana. This was a very complex project, which utilized over 90% of the cranes’ capacity. The lift was 171,000 lbs. at a 46-foot radius. The crane was equipped with maximum counterweights and the total weight of the load was 350,000 lbs. The ATF 400G-6 performed impeccably.
Following the successful completion of the job, Constantin Haag, President of Hammer Haag Steel, remarked, “Barcelona is the finest crane company we have dealt with in the industry and Tadano’s new crane followed with the tradition of perfect performance and safety Barcelona always brings to the job. This Tadano all-terrain is the best in the Barcelona fleet.”
The crane was then brought back to the Barcelona yard for two weeks of training with Tadano service technicians. Two of these technicians were here from the Tadano Faun factory in Germany where the ATF 400G-6 is manufactured. Bob Steiner could not say enough about the professionalism and service training of the Tadano service technicians. He believes that this was the smoothest and most professional team he has ever encountered in all of his 46 years in the crane industry. He stated the Tadano service culture is immeasurable in this day and age.

Is this the first Tadano crane purchased by Barcelona Equipment?
Yes, Mr. Jack Swan, of Exact Crane & Equipment referred us to the Tadano product line because we were interested in adding a larger all terrain crane to our fleet.
What factors led to choosing the ATF 400G-6 from Tadano?
Justin Steiner, my son and sales manager, Jack Swan and myself visited the Tadano American office in Houston, Texas to get a better look at the ATF 400G-6. We met with Tadano Vice President and General Manager, Mr. Ron Dogotch, and he took the time to thoroughly explain all of the advantages of the Tadano crane that we were looking for making the decision to purchase an easy one. While in Houston, we were able to see the service team in action. They were fielding customer phone calls and working together to find a solution to get the cranes up and running. We were quite impressed with the comradery within the Tadano service department.
What specific feature(s) do you like most about the crane?
We are particularly impressed with the three back up systems for the boom scoping. For example, if the AML screen should go down, the remote and display sticker on the glass would determine how and where the boom is locking with the cylinder. If total failure of the AML screen and telescoping display occurs, the yellow ID box in the cabin would show all details over the tele-system making it so the boom could be retracted safely. This is an excellent safety feature.
What did you find that you did not know as a result of purchasing the ATF 400G-6?
We found that Tadano’s exclusive Safety Lift Adjuster is an asset in giving the operator of the crane extra confidence when lifting in critical conditions. If the crane is lifting a heavy load in a small working area and the lift adjuster is activated, the crane will adjust itself to lift the load automatically. This is an excellent safety feature.
Are there any other benefits of the Tadano ATF 400G-6?
The ATF 400G-6 exhibits an exceptionally strong main boom, a 6 axle carrier and all wheel steering that provides tremendous mobility and easy set up. The steering has the ability to be switched from every position without having to move the crane into neutral. The crane has built in safety features such as handrails, which assist in making the assembly safer and more efficient. The ATF 400G-6 is portable and very flexible, not to mention safe.
What business sector do you anticipate the ATF 400G-6 will be used?
Barcelona Equipment plans to utilize this crane in HVAC, infrastructure projects, power industries, water treatment plants, commercial construction and any project that requires a versatile crane.
How will the ATF 400G-6 give you an advantage over your competition?
The main boom capacity of the Tadano ATF 400G-6 is much stronger than comparable cranes. Its quick assembly and road ability separates it from the competition.
Are there any final comments you would like to add?
Barcelona Equipment would definitely consider adding more Tadano products in the future. The equipment is top of the line and the service is impeccable.
